Rock Merlo and Merlo Waterfowl are long time established guides and club operators. Merlo has been a customer/supporter of Kittle’s since 1999.
Casey Stafford and the Colusa Indian Community’s Outdoor Adventures Hunting and Fishing Guide service are a staple in Colusa County. Their affiliation with the Colusa Casino and River Valley Lodge make them a full service recreation/entertainment destination for Colusa.
Kevin Brock and his Fish Kevin Brock full time fishing guide service are also a go to for Kittle’s Outdoor. Kevin is and Always has been a year around fisherman. Kevin is also a Pro Staff for Kittle’s.
In 2019 there were approximately 85 shooting ranges, shooting facility or preserve within a 100 mile radius. This does not include public wildlife areas or private hunt clubs for deer or waterfowl.
In 2019 there were approximately 500 FFL holders (Type 01, 02) within the 100 mile radius.
Most of the City of Colusa and land to the North East is designated to be in the Opportunity Zone. See the area shaded gray. An Opportunity Zone is an economic development tool that allows people to invest in distressed areas in the United States.
Their purpose is to spur economic growth and job creation in low-income communities while providing tax benefits to investors.
Opportunity Zones were created under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (Public Law No. 115-97 ). Thousands of low-income communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories are designated as Qualified Opportunity Zones.
Taxpayers can invest in these zones through Qualified Opportunity Funds.

California’s population is more than 40% Hispanic. Colusa County’s population is more than 50% Hispanic.
This is quite relevant. The Hispanic population will continue to be more important in the Outdoor Sports Market.
The populations will continue to grow out and around Colusa. Many outdoor business opportunities have yet to be tapped. ( Kittle’s has a solid list of expansion ideas for diverse vertical integration). The reasonable travel distance of 100 miles envelops a heavy population and vast acres for recreation.

Just on the West side of Colusa is the Famous Colusa National Wildlife Refuge.
